A question for diabetics.

I notice glyconutrients are called 'sugars' - I am a diabetic, can I take them.

To the lay public, sugars are the villains behind expanding waistlines and rotting teeth, but sugars, or more properly, the complex sugars called glycans are now recognised as critical mediators of cell-cell communication. The sugars in the essential glyconutrients do not cause insulin problems for diabetics because the amounts of glucose in the average daily supplement are low and the other 7 essential glyconutrients have lower glycemic indices.

If you are either type I or II diabetic you should ask your doctor about taking glyconutrients - give him or her the information of the glyconutrients you are considering taking. Under a doctor's direction, reduction of diabetic drugs or insulin should become necessary as the body is enabled to control the diabetes.

The Sugars - Mannose (Second of eight essential glyconutrients)

Mannose is one of eight essential glyconutrients and can be found in Gum Ghatti which is obtained from the sap of the Indian sumac. Mannose plays a major role in tissue remodelling, cell to cell communication, inhibition of tumour growth and spread, and the prevention of bacterial, viral, parasitic and fungal infections. Other functions of mannose include lowering blood sugar and triglyceride levels in diabetics, lowering cholesterol; easing the inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis and may help lupus patients as studies indicate these patients have mannose deficiencies. Studies also show that mannose is necessary for the production of cytokines which fight invaders. Scientists at the Glycobiology Institute at Oxford have found that macrophages have mannose receptors that activate immune attacks.

The Sugars - N-acetylglucosamine (one of eight essential glyconutrients)

N-AcetylGlucosamine is widely known by its metabolic byproduct called Glucosamine. Recently found effective in the repair of cartilage, the nutrient decreases pain and inflammation with bone joints; while increasing the range and motion in osteoarthritis. Glucosamine also helps mend mucosal lining, the defensive barrier called the Glycosaminoglycan layer (GAG), a condition that can lead to serious complications such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and interstitial cystitis when left unattended.

There is strong evidence that reveals how N-acetylglucosamine, when added to a regular diet, promotes the speedy healing of injuries over bone joints. Failure of the body to effectively metabolize N-acetylglucosamine has been found to have a strong link with diseases of the bowel and bladder for it has been shown that the nutrient helps repair the mucosal lining's defensive barrier called the glycosaminoglycan layer (GAG). Glucosamine is also an immune modulator with known anti-tumor and anti-viral characteristics, as well as a deterrent against the HIV virus. It has also been proven through pertinent animal research that this sugar can prevent the spread of the human influenza virus as well as that of the herpes virus.

What is of paramount importance is the ability of N-acetylglucosamine to reduce progression in experimental cancers. Glyconutrients, glucosamine and mannose added into the drinking water of mice stopped the growth of Ehrlich ascites tumors, in the clinical experiments conducted. The survival rates among animals tested increased while the size and spread of the tumors were significantly decreased. Some studies also discovered reduced levels of N-acetylglucosamine among patients of colon cancer. It is probable that the regular distribution of this sugar may have been genetically altered when cancerous tissues materialized.

The process of documenting the benefits of N-acetylglucosamine to humans would entail a long process. There is evidence that its presence in the brain aids in the functions of the nervous system and enhances the learning process; the thyroid gland Glucosamine receptors help in the transport of thyroglobulin; sugar concentration in retinal tissues suggests that vision correction is possible; glucosamine concentration in the intestines may reduce the absorption of cholesterol (LDL); glucosamine presence in the liver could serve as a regulatory substance in insulin secretion.

There is no known adverse side effect to the intake of N-acetylglucosamine supplement.

If you fit into any of the criteria below you should be supplementing with N-acetylglucosamine daily to halt cartilage degeneration that could lead to arthritis :
  • If you are over the age of 40.
  • If you are experiencing minor aches and pains in your weight bearing joints such as knees, hips and spine.
  • If you currently participate in sporting activities.

The Corrective Response (Corrective Action)

Mannatech offer a 180 day money back guarantee and there is a good reason for this time frame. It must be understood that supplementation is a lifestyle decision. As opposed to medicine, it is proactive and preventative and as such, a well informed balanced supplementation plan should be for life, much like one's medical cover. Having said all that, within the period of 180 days there will be the chance that one experiences what is referred to as 'Corrective Action'. It is important to continue with supplementation through this period, but the Mannatech guarantee allows for this phenomena to pass, which I will explain as follows, that the full benefits may become apparent:

When you begin to feed your body the Ambrotose products and strengthen the nutritional status of the cells, the body’s vitality increases. You will feel an increased sense of well- being and enhanced energy levels. This subsequently enables your body to liquify accumulated waste and toxins that have been lodged in the tissues and organs for years. Whatever has been suppressed in the body over time is removed through the channels of elimination. You may experience a wide range of symptoms from digestive upset, skin rashes, catarrh and mucous and bodily aches and pains. This process of detoxification is called a healing crises.
Dr. Reg McDaniel outlines 3 reasons for the healing crises or corrective response.

Immune Response

Our body’s defense systems are weakened through long time exposure to environmental stresses. When the immunity is restored, reactions may present in the form of flu – like symptoms such as runny noses, catarrh, fever blisters, muscle aches etc.

Toxic Dump

Toxins may be released faster than the channels of elimination can remove them and may present digestive upsets, headaches and swelling of the lymph nodes.

Allergic Response

Allergic reactions can be caused by a deficiency of Hydrochloric Acid and /or stressed liver and adrenal glands. This gives rise to skin rashes and shortness of breath.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DISEASE CRISES
AND HEALING CRISES

DISEASE _______________________HEALING
________________________________________________________
Usually begins slowly _______________ Starts suddenly
Deterioration over time ______________No warning signs
After crises no change _______________After crises –feels good

How Do Cells Communicate?

Scientists have recently discovered a new class of necessary nutrients - certain monosaccharides or carbohydrates that are necessary for maintaining health. These monosaccharides are called glyconutrients and there are 8 glyconutrients essential for each cell in our body to communicate correctly with the next cell or organism.

Science has proven that your body uses glyconutrients to prevent infections and disease, and slow the aging process. The medical literature documents improvement in every major category of disease, including conditions like diabetes, heart disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, hepatitis C, cancer, autism, ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, candida infections, asthma, menopause, Tat-Sachs disease, urinary infections, upper respiratory infections, stroke, cerebral palsy, organ transplant, depression, muscular dystrophy, failure to thrive in infants, alcoholism, improvement in antioxidant defense, and many more.

The very areas of health that are the biggest challenges to modern medicine are the areas that body seems very capable of improving when given the right tools.
The effectiveness of glyconutrients as the key to proper cellular communication and proper cell function has been established by the world's leading scientists and researchers. This research and the growing realisation amongst doctors and the general public will be the driving determinant for glyconutritionals playing a leading role in the 21st century's emerging wellness industry.

Optimal health is a lifetime commitment. Unlike pharmaceutical drugs that mostly treat symptoms, nutritional supplementation acts as prevention as well as increasing the body's ability to heal, repair, regenerate, regulate and protect itself. It therefore requires a lifetime commitment.

As we've seen in controlled studies in humans and animals, the saccharides [glyconutrients] in combination with adequate amounts of other key essential nutrients, accelerate healing, improve immune function, slow down ageing, improve memory, lower anxiety without toxic side effects.
When health is improved or restored, mind and body shift over to what the Chinese call 'the right side', embracing harmony, healing and 'gong'.

A South African Testimony From Tony Cashel

Please note that Glyconutrients are not a cure. Glyconutrients are essential compenents to our diet and as such are a suplementation that facilitates proper cellular function and communication. Glyconutrients enable the body to heal itself. The benefits of Glyconutrients can be felt within a few weeks. At least three months are required for an accurate assessment. You do not have to be sick in order to take Glyconutrients.

MAY 2006

I was diagnosed with Lymphoma (a blood cancer). A tumour was removed from my abdomen and a histology was done on the tumour. This occurred in my home town ( Harare, Zimbabwe.). They were uncertain as to whether it was Hodgkins or Non-Hodgkins. It was recommended that I see a leading Haemotology Oncologist practising at Constantiaberg Clinic in Cape Town South Africa. My surgeon gave me a 30-50% survival rate.

JUNE 2006

I relocated to Cape Town and saw Prof Jacobs. He re-did the histology and confirmed Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Under his recommendation, I commenced bulk standard Hodgkins Chemotherapy (ABVD regimen). This regimen commenced 26th June. During this time, I did not feel like my body was healing and I was having severe back pains and hip-joint pain, whereby walking was getting difficult. I did not have a good feeling about the therapy.

OCT 2006

After three and a half months of treatment, a PETSCAN was arranged. This Petscan took place on about 20th October . Results were not happy reading: Synopsis as follows:

MIP IMAGE
Multiple areas of abnormal and avid FDG accumulation can be seen throughout the body.
NECK
Normal physiological distribution
CHEST
Intense abnormal uptake in lymphnodes in sub-carinal area. There is also uptake in at least two ribs on the left side posterior.
ABDOMEN
Intense uptake in para-aortic lymph nodes, retrocrural bilaterally. There is also intense uptake in a mass of lymph nodes to the right of the midline.
OTHER
- Further skeletal infiltration is noted
- left SI joint and adjacent ala.
-right ala adjacent to the SI joint.
-wing of the right ilium
-Intense lesion in the proximal femur.
-small lesion in the right proximal femur.
-lesion in the spinous process of the left scapula.
-small lesion in sacrum on right side.
CONCLUSION
The scan shows evidence of disseminated lymphoma involving lymph nodes as well as skeleton.

A further biopsy was required, as clearly the treatment was not working.
Another operation was performed to obtain another tumour sample the at end of October.

NOV 2006.

Treatment changed to CHOP-Gem. As I ascertained, this is a radical chemo for aggressive Lymphoma (I had a form of Large Cell Lymphoma). Survival rate downgraded to 15%.

It was at this time that I decided to take more of an active role in my cure plan and started to think laterally. I began what I call a holistic approach to my treatment. Attacking the cancer through conventional medicine (chemotherapy), a tougher mental approach, spiritual well being through Christianity and more disciplined nutrition. It was at this time that I discovered Glyco-nutrionals.

I started hectic daily dosages of Ambrotose, Phyt-Aloe, Catalyst and Plus - as prescribed per the 'In Search Of Manna' Guideline. My Glyco-nutrional programme commenced on the 7th Nov 2006.

I stuck to the program rigidly, which I believe is a key feature to the success of glyco-nutritionals. I also was now doing my CHOP-Gem chemo, which consisted of a 21 day cycle of two parts.
Day 1
Cyclophosphamide
Hydroxydaunarubicin (Sp?).
Oncovin
Prednisone
Gemcitibine
Day 8
Gemcitibine
Day 21
Full CHOP-Gem again.

DEC 2006-JAN 2007

Stuck to my holistic approach.
I did 4 cycles of CHOP-Gem ending on 26th Jan 2007.
During this time I kept up my GLYCO's with a daily dosage of:
36 scoops of Ambrotose
6 Plus tabs
6 Catalyst tabs
4 Phyt Aloe.
taken at regular intervals throughout the day.

Now the noticeable part. Even though the Chemo sent my White Blood, Haemoglobin and Platelet counts all over the show, I found the treatment manageable and only suffered minor side-affects (mainly mouth sores!).
In addtion, the pains in my back and hip receded and my energy levels increased. I felt much better going into my second scan.

FEB 2007

Had second Petscan, planned for Valentine's Day, would you believe, but actually occurred on the 15th Feb, due to a slight medical hiccup!

Now, the real interesting part:
I had the post scan consult with Prof Jacob's, who had seen the results and declared me disease-free and in re-mission.

Scan report reads:

MIP IMAGE:
Compared to previous study, which showed multiple foci of pathologic uptake, this study shows physiologic uptake only in brain, heart, urinary tract and gut.
CHEST
There is mild uptake in the oesophagus-? oesophagitis. No FDG avid lymph nodes are seen
ABDOMEN.
There is still residual lymph nodes noted, without abnormal FDG uptake.
OTHER.
No active skeletal lesions are seen.
CONCLUSION.
Good response to therapy.

The Prof's comments:

MIP Image
No real concern's as physiologic in nature.
Chest
No worries
Abdomen
Very good chance that residual nodes are scar tissue, hence no abnormal behaviour.

OVERALL CONCLUSION

I believe that it was my holistic approach that ultimately improved my medical condition, of which the Glyco-nutrients were a pivotal contributor.

The Professor suggested that I finish the planned treatment of radiation therapy and suggested a Bone Marrow Transplant! I declined the 'medical way forward’ strategy, and decided to ‘go it alone’ on my holistic approach including glyco-nutrition.

Why Network Marketing?

Consumers are often swayed more by advertising than fact. In my case I paid little attention to supplements anyway since I have always been healthy, but now I have realised that being healthy and being well are two quite different states. While health speaks of the absence of disease, being well includes health, but covers other areas such as our state of mind, our finances etc. It is a fact that we can no longer get all that we need in terms of nutrients, from what we eat. With so many health products to choose from in stores today, the cheapest, most sincere looking product usually gets our vote, but do we really know what we are buying? There is simply not enough information to make an informed decision regarding one's health and well- being at the counter.

While Network Marketing cuts out the middle men and can pass company profits on via their compensation plan, more importantly it affords the consumer an opportunity to take charge, to be part of a proactive team, to ask questions and understand fully, the science behind what he or she is consuming. Network marketing is more about transparancy and support, not so much about advertising. Its about people sharing, people who are using a product, have answers to questions and can testify to its benefits.

We run Opportunity meetings every second Tuesday on a new category of nutrients in the area of Glycobiology, called Glyconutrients. Even if you are just interested, you're welcome. Since this is an International business and fast becoming a worldwide business, wherever you may be in the world, if you are interested in the benefits of Glyconutrients, please contact me and I will be able to put you in touch with an Opportunity meeting near you.

Have a wonderful day!
